This tour will take you on the highest and most spectacular road in Romania, also made famous by the Top Gear road tests. We start our tour with a visit to Curtea de Arges Monastery, considered one of the finest architectural wonders of Romania. Inside the monastery you can admire impressive mural painting in oil. Here are the tombs of important figures for Romanian history as Mircea cel Batran, King Charles 1 or Queen Elizabeth of Romania. The name of the monastery is part of the famous legend of the Manole builder. Listen carefully and maybe you'll hear the sobs of his wife Ana. We move on to the Poenari Fortress with its 1,480 steps. Your effort will be rewarded with the astonishing view over the valley. Behind the walls of the Poenari Fortress you will see what it means to "impale", the Vlad the Impaler’s favorite punishment. Back on the road, the next stop is at Vidraru dam, a huge construction made with 480,000 cubic meters of concrete. Passing the Vidraru dam, we are already on Transfagarasan, a very spectacular road that goes up to Balea Lake, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 2040 m. The last 887 meters from the south are going through a spectacular viaduct which takes you to the north side of the mountain.
